Puligny Montrachet is regarded by many as the greatest white wine commune in the Cote d’Or. While it is considerably smaller than either of its two neighbors, the village can boast two of Burgundy’s six white wine grand crus in their entirety. The wines of Puligny Montrachet are taut, with a greenish-gold color, high acidity and long aging potential – they portray a floral elegance alongside a stylish, steely concentration. The very finest of the premier cru vineyards stretch from the edge of the grand crus towards Meursault. The expression of terroir here seems somehow more sharply etched than elsewhere – the fruit is defined and powerful, yet restrained at the same time.
